The Common Support Equipment Technician diagnoses, repairs, and maintains Common Support Equipment (CSE). Responsibilities include troubleshooting malfunctions, performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, analyzing maintenance trends, and documenting actions using automated systems. Technicians utilize diagnostic tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes to repair mechanical and electronic systems. They also handle fluids, conduct corrosion treatments, manage hazardous materials, and prepare CSE for deployment.
The role includes operating and servicing support equipment and tow vehicles while adhering to safety, Tool Control, and Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention standards at all times.
- Diagnoses malfunctions and repairs CSE, including troubleshooting, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, analyzing maintenance trends, and documenting actions using automated systems.
- Utilizes diagnostic tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other hand tools to repair mechanical and electronic systems.
- Handles fluids, conducts corrosion treatments, manages hazardous materials, and prepares CSE for deployment.
- Operates and services support equipment and tow vehicles (Bobtail Ford trucks, Tow Tractors, Tug, U-30 aircraft tow vehicle) while adhering to safety, Tool Control, and FOD prevention standards.
- Removes, disassembles, repairs, cleans, corrodes, re‑assembles, and installs malfunctioning CSE accessories and components; stenciles and marks CSE; stores, handles, labels, and disposes of hazardous materials and waste.
- Maintains required fluids (oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, compressed air) and performs corrosion control, preservation, and mobility deployment of CSE.
- Provides housekeeping, Tool Control, FOD prevention, and safety practices.
- Reviews and interprets assigned maintenance manuals, wiring schematics, OEM technical data, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine repair feasibility and method.
- Performs authorized commercial repair of all CSE, MHE, and PSE in accordance with KAF 4790 2 and applicable maintenance manuals.
- Conducts scheduled or unscheduled inspections, troubleshooting, reworks, and maintenance of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
- Ensures accurate entry of data into local computer database systems to document maintenance actions, monitor maintenance trends, and maintain equipment records.
- Uses hazardous materials (chemical sealants, oil, hydraulic fluid, transmission fluid, etc.) with proper handling and disposal.
- Diagnosis and corrective actions; disassembly, inspection, evaluation, and necessary repairs per technical instructions and directives.
- Determines requirements for repairs, modifications, and part replacements; may verify work performed by others.
- Applies knowledge of wiring schematics and interpretation of technical data.
- Performs close tolerance adjustments, repairs, and rework of equipment in and out of shop area.
- Inspects and tests aviation support equipment for direct and indirect aircraft support, including storage batteries (lead‑acid, gel, sealed).
- Conducts corrosion control prevention, preservation, and de‑preservation of support equipment.
- Performs general housekeeping and organization of workstations, shop, and maintenance facility to provide a clean, safe, and FOD‑free environment.
- Conducts off‑station maintenance and other supervisory functions as required.
The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; sit, stand, and reach with hands and arms; walk, climb, or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift 20lbs, and occasionally lift or move up to 50lbs. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
