FN - Aircraft Mechanic III AH- Buehring

The Aircraft Mechanic III performs the full range of military tactical aircraft maintenance and maintenance repairs, modifies aircraft structures and structural components of complex to extreme difficulty. Maintains and repairs aircraft components including, but not limited to, flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components. Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to identify equipment malfunctions and restores equipment condition and operation.

Provides professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufacturers' manuals. Makes entries in aircraft logs and records, and provides guidance to lower level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts. Plans, conducts, and supervises aircraft technical inspections. Computes basic weight and balance records. Participates in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required.

Ensures compliance with aircraft configuration control, Army Oil Analysis Program, and test measuring diagnostic equipment calibration. Provides lower level technicians guidance in aircraft repair and technical inspection techniques and procedures according to directives, technical manuals, work standards, and operational policies. Prepares evaluations, special reports, and records pertaining to aircraft maintenance repair and related activities. Performs other duties as requested.

Minimum Requirements: Requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check through the UK government prior to deployment. Completion of high school or equivalent required. Five (5) or more years of aviation maintenance experience within the past ten (10) years on that Mission Design Series (MDS). Experience in maintenance, modification and repair of tactical aircraft systems of the type being serviced and their associated components.

Must possess a passport with at least three (3) years of validity remaining at the time of hire and be able to travel internationally. Must clear CENTCOM Medical for deployment.

Knowledge &

Skills:

Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures and replacement of parts. Broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair. Basic knowledge of electrical theory and a thorough knowledge of aircraft specific tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers. Working knowledge of technical publications and Logistics Information Systems. Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects and required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks.

Participates in maintenance test flights and operation checks as required. Possesses the level of experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by mechanics. Receives technical guidance, as required, from a supervisor or higher level technician, may occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex tasks, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.

Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day. Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands. Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above/below shoulders. May be required to lift heavy objects whose weight may exceed 50 pounds.

Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e mail and various software applications. Will handle dirty parts and lubricants. Requires proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Must pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification. May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklifts, etc. Must be able to lift/push/pull a minimum of 50 pounds.

May work in a maintenance shop or outside. Must be able to work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty. May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment. May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts or vehicles.
