Job Title
Under close supervision, performs a variety of unskilled road maintenance and construction duties for Hays County.
Job ResponsibilitiesPerforms a variety of unskilled road maintenance and construction duties such as clearing brush, trimming branches, operating a chipper, setting up road signs and barricades, flagging and directing traffic, filling potholes, cleaning offices and equipment yard, removing trash from roads and parks, mowing rights-of-way, applying herbicides, performing routine equipment maintenance (such as checking and filling fluids), and shoveling/spreading dirt and asphalt.
Builds forms, ties steel, pours and finishes concrete, paves roads, and removes asphalt or concrete.
May operate light equipment such as rollers, broom trucks, pick-up trucks, backhoes, loaders, and tractor mowers.
Transfer equipment between locations.
Assist other County departments with labor tasks.
Maintain fuel logs or other records.
Follows established safety procedures and guidelines.
Performs light mechanic duties within the mechanic shop.
Performs minor repairs on equipment and vehicles, including oil changes.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or ExperienceRoad or concrete construction experience preferred.
Vehicle maintenance experience preferred
Other Qualifications, Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsClass "C" Texas Driver's License.
Class "B" Commercial Texas Driver's License preferred.
Employees must provide and wear lace up safety boots, as described in the Hays County Safety Boot Policy for Transportation.
