Process Engineer II – Interface
Interface is a global flooring and sustainability leader dedicated to rethinking how spaces work for people and the planet.
Responsibilities- Identify improvement opportunities that align with strategic objectives and lead multi-disciplined teams improving existing processes, reducing costs, and implementing new manufacturing processes.
- Use process improvement methodologies such as DMAIC, DOE, FMEA, Process Mapping, 6S, etc.
- Examine equipment, processes, and operations and make improvements through definition, development, documentation, training and implementation of the process.
- Learn and retain a working knowledge of company initiatives, processes, laboratory testing and quality control procedures.
- Work with operators to understand process capabilities and identify opportunities for improvements in efficiency, work procedures, quality, and safety.
- Evaluate all processes to identify opportunities to improve product uniformity, eliminate non-value-added functions, optimize process efficiency, and evaluate for yield and safety improvement opportunities.
- Partner with manufacturing to develop, maintain, implement, and monitor operational procedures and standards.
- Reduce off-quality by analyzing quality data to determine root cause.
- Perform cost analysis, time studies, frequency checks, and material usage analysis.
- Collaborate with Engineering to plan and execute all aspects of a project or technology initiative, including basic data collection, engineering evaluation, scope of work development, cost estimations and financial analysis.
- Develop project charters and lead process improvement and cost reduction teams utilizing process improvement tools and techniques.
- Analyze, develop, coordinate, implement and interpret results of projects and trials related to continuous improvement.
- Provide regular updates on project status and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain Process Specifications and perform Process Audits.
- Coordinate functional experts in contacting outside vendors concerning raw materials, supplies, machinery or equipment as necessary.
- Travel to locations outside the company to conduct and/or assist in continuous improvement activities, trials or training.
- Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, ISO 9001 & 14001 policies, safety regulations, environmental regulations, and MSDS.
- BS in Engineering and over 2 years of Process, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering experience.
- Professional attitude and work ethic, self‑starter with a desire to achieve results.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels.
- Proven team leadership skills and ability to influence others at all levels.
- Knowledge of process engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, and material properties.
- Capability to document processes such as manufacturing routings, task descriptions, and work center definitions.
- Experience with project costing, bid package preparation and execution (desirable).
- Experience leading cross‑functional problem‑solving teams with demonstrated success.
- Thorough understanding of Six Sigma and Lean tools and techniques (DMAIC, DOE, FMEA, SPC, Process Mapping).
- Ability to design and conduct experiments, analyze and interpret data.
- Experience with statistical software such as Minitab or SPC for Excel, flowcharting and process mapping software; ability to train others.
- Strong time and project management skills.
- Experience working with customers to understand performance and end‑use requirements.
- Understanding of machinery fundamentals.
Long periods of standing on concrete during data collection, daily climbing of ladders or stairs, extensive walking. Work environment: office environment and non‑climate controlled manufacturing environment.
