Summary

of Position

Pool Managers oversee all operations at an assigned aquatic facility.

All candidates must have the ability to swim with proficiency and endurance, possess knowledge of current preventive lifeguard techniques including CPR, First Aid, and water rescues.

Pool Managers will oversee all staff and programs at their assigned facility.

The minimum starting rate is $23.00 per hour. Eligible experience, education, and expertise may provide a greater starting base pay within the full pay grade.

Essential Functions
  • Inspect and inventory all pool equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain all required reports and records, including employees' work time.
  • Receive and account for all monies collected.
  • Supervise, evaluate, assign, and train assigned personnel.
  • Supervise, develop, and organize aquatic classes and programs for the public.
  • Take appropriate action to prevent dangerous situations and accidents.
  • Render care in the latest American Red Cross techniques in water safety, lifeguarding, first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (C.P.R.) to persons in need of assistance.
  • Rescue and resuscitate drowning persons; aid persons affected by life threatening injuries.
  • Ensure constant surveillance as assigned to safeguard swimmers from drowning and other accidents.
  • Enforce facility rules and procedures.
  • Ensure aquatic facility including its building, grounds, and equipment are safe and presentable.
  • Direct and instruct water‑oriented classes such as swim lessons, swim team, junior guard, and water aerobics.
  • Write and prepare lesson plans; assist in the planning, promoting, and organizing of aquatic classes and programs.
  • Performs all other duties as duly assigned.
Community Relations
  • Maintains desired working relationship with Recreation Coordinator(s), Recreation Manager, Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation, Maintenance Manager, and Director of Parks and Recreation.
  • Provides support to all City department programs and/or activities as needed.
  • Actively participates in creating and providing desired service levels to the citizens of Kyle and non‑citizens outside the City of Kyle.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customers and personal services.
  • Knowledge of basic operational procedures, including opening and closing duties and preparing cash‑on‑hand statements.
  • Skill in making effective decisions, responding quickly, and maintaining composure in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Ability to swim with proficiency and endurance to perform potential rescues.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, partner agencies, and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Two seasons of five months' experience as a lifeguard at an aquatic facility.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.
  • American Red Cross Standard First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Lifeguard certifications required or obtained before working.
  • Proof of an equivalent and current up to date lifeguard certification may substitute.
  • The City of Kyle will certify and pay for certification if not already obtained.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous lifeguard experience.
  • One season or 2.5 months' experience supervising staff.
  • American Red Cross Standard First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Lifeguard certification.
Physical Demands

While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee may be routinely required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Work may routinely require the employee to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds.

Work may require swimming up to 200 yards without stopping. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This job requires the individual to frequently work outdoors and indoors in a variety of environmental conditions, including high temperatures, humidity, moisture, and distracting noises. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
