The Shrine welcomes over 100,000 pilgrims each year who seek spiritual growth, healing, and a connection with God through our liturgical, devotional, and educational offerings.
Position SummaryMembers of this team rotate between reception and hospitality stations located in the Pilgrim Center welcome desk and the Church Narthex. Weekend Receptionists serve as the first point of contact for pilgrims and callers during weekend operating hours. Receptionists are responsible for providing a welcoming and hospitable atmosphere, assisting pilgrims with information and directions, answering and routing telephone calls, and supporting pilgrims’ hospitality needs.
Weekend Receptionists are expected to demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, discretion, and strong interpersonal skills. A minimum of 1–3 weekends per month may be required.
- Greet and welcome all pilgrims in a warm, professional, and hospitable manner.
- Relate the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe to pilgrims.
- Provide a simple orientation to pilgrims including a brief history and map of the grounds.
- Answer questions relating to religious and devotional aspects of the Shrine.
- Answer incoming telephone calls promptly and courteously.
- Administer basic first aid to pilgrims including: minor cuts, bruises, insect bites, etc.
- Communicate effectively with staff and clergy regarding pilgrim needs, emergencies, and operational concerns.
- Inform pilgrims about policies including: carts, pets, dress code, and photography.
- Monitor security camera system for pilgrim needs and security concerns.
- Observe and report safety or security concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Provide accurate information regarding schedules, events, and general inquiries.
- Direct pilgrims and callers to the appropriate staff members or departments.
- Monitor and maintain the reception area to ensure cleanliness, organization, and a welcoming appearance.
- Occasional restroom cleaning as needed.
- Receive and distribute deliveries, mail, and packages as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information and organizational matters.
- Other duties as requested by Pilgrim Services Manager or the weekend manager.
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with a strong understanding of the Catholic faith and liturgical life.
- 2–3 years of customer service or hospitality experience, preferably in a Catholic or nonprofit setting.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a service-oriented mindset.
- Flexibility in scheduling weekends, occasional events, and holy days.
- Basic proficiency with computers including security cameras, calendar, and email.
- Verbal proficiency in both English and Spanish preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Occasional lifting or physical setup for events may be required.
