Job DutiesThe Division of Administration and Finance supports the mission of teaching, research, and public service by providing quality campus services. This position is part of the Police & Parking Services and works under the general supervision of the Law Enforcement Dispatch Supervisor. The dispatcher operates communication systems – two‑way radios, telephones, and computers – to coordinate internal and external responses for police operations on campus.
The role serves as a hub for all alarms and notification systems critical to campus safety.
Key responsibilities include maintaining accurate police reports, dispatch logs, and crime statistics; applying and maintaining records of department grants; and serving as a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act.
Key Job Responsibilities- Documents incidents accurately and adheres to all applicable policies, rules, and regulations.
- Troubleshoots, triages, and escalates issues according to established policies and procedures.
- Schedules logistics and secures resources for response to emergency incidents for the institution.
- Communicates effectively and provides accurate and detailed instructions to all types of audiences in high‑stress emergency situations.
- Operates police radios, phone consoles, and various equipment and technologies to receive and process requests and information from institutional affiliates, law enforcement, and other public safety agencies.
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must become certified and maintain certification with WI DOJ Time system, which requires an extensive background check.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Knowledge and experience with e‑mail functions (Outlook, Gmail).
- Knowledge of proper telephone etiquette.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi‑task and manage frequent interruptions.
- Attention to detail with timelines and due dates.
- Ability to coordinate projects, work independently, and set priorities.
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
- Skilled in operating multi‑lined telephones.
- Ability to use discretion and good judgment regarding confidential information.
- Ability to work effectively with people across multiple levels of the organization.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions associated with keyboarding for typing or word processing.
- Willingness to maintain and enhance professional competencies through development workshops, seminars, and training sessions.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures of a public safety unit.
- Advanced computer skills and knowledge.
- Prior dispatch experience.
- Experience with two‑way radio use and etiquette.
- TIME Certified.
$18.65 per hour
