Summary of Position: Instructors are responsible for providing quality academic curriculum, instruction, assessment, and for ensuring a productive and challenging learning experience is delivered to prepare students for the workplace and/or a pathway to further education. This position works to promote social justice within the division and the larger academic institution. Instruction will be primarily in the face‑to‑face format.

Essential Functions
  • Maintain and uphold the College values of Learning, Excellence, Accountability, Diversity, Student Success, Teamwork, Integrity, and Respect. Regular attendance is required.
  • Instruction – supporting actions may include delivering courses in multiple modes of delivery including modern classroom (F2F), online or hybrid/blended, and on‑site training for external customers where applicable; developing and delivering instructional design activities; addressing and referring student concerns; guiding and supporting students one‑to‑one both inside and outside the classroom; assisting students in developing critical thinking skills to understand and apply concepts of subject matter to vocational, ethical, social, and personal practices.
  • Classroom Management – supporting actions may include monitoring student progress and conducting student evaluation; providing input and/or maintaining division accreditation and student records; integrating the College Success Abilities as well as the program outcomes and course competencies.
  • Program Development and Academic Leadership – supporting actions may include responsible for instructional learning activities; providing academic referrals as appropriate; organizing, developing, and delivering outcomes‑based curriculum and assessing student learning.
  • Complete all required College training and maintain the skills necessary to perform the essential functions of the position as defined by the department.
  • Student success is the cornerstone of Western's culture and the college may assign employees to other areas or additional duties to foster this success.
Qualifications

Minimum Education and Occupational Requirements
  • High School Diploma
  • Three years (or 6,000 hours) certified occupational experience as a jail officer (certifiability occurs on the date of LESB approval)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree
  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related law‑enforcement field;
    Public Administration, Public Service, or Education
  • Master's degree
  • Teaching experience
  • Online teaching experience and/or experience with online learning platforms
Required Certification / Licenses
  • Eligible for or meets WTCS Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements
  • Individual program certification may be required and must be maintained (e.g., RN, public safety)
