Assistant Teaching Professor - Biology Anatomy & Physiology

The Department of Biology in the College of Science and Health at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse (UWL) invites applications for an academic year, non-tenure-track assistant teaching professor position specializing in anatomy and physiology. This is a renewable non-tenure track instructional position. Our colleague will teach in our two-semester anatomy and physiology lab series. Depending on expertise and department need, this individual may also teach anatomy and physiology lectures and/or other undergraduate courses in our curriculum, like General Biology, Genetics, or Cell Biology.

We seek an engaging teacher with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring. Potential to begin either January 2026 or August 2026.

A person in a teaching professor position is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses and advising students. In addition to preparing for and holding classes, teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students' work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours. This individual will provide service to the department, college, and/or university and is encouraged to engage in service to the community and/or the profession.

Other duties may be assigned by the chair or dean.

The College of Science & Health (CSH) at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse is the university's largest college, educating more than half of all undergraduates through programs in the natural, physical, computational, mathematical, and health sciences. Instructional Academic Staff play an essential role in delivering high-quality, student-centered teaching that emphasizes applied learning, critical thinking, and community engagement. Faculty and staff teach and mentor students in modern facilities such as the Prairie Springs Science Center and the Health Science Center, which provide state-of-the-art instructional labs, specialized research spaces, and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.

With a strong tradition of innovative curriculum, hands-on laboratory and field experiences, and undergraduate research, CSH fosters student success across disciplines, as reflected in high job placement and graduate/professional school continuation rates. Instructional Academic Staff appointments directly support this mission, making a meaningful and lasting impact on student learning and achievement.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with department faculty and staff to develop teaching strategies relevant to the discipline
  • Develops and designs curriculum and instructional material relevant to a course of instruction
  • Contributes to the development of teaching and learning scholarly work including publications and presentations
  • Contributes to the strategic development of curriculum and academic content through various mediums to ensure the integrity of the educational mission of the work unit
  • Advises students on academic and career direction within a specific field of study
  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction, including assessment of student performance
  • May supervise student employees involved in development or delivery of instruction

  • Master's degree in biology, or a closely related field.
  • Ability to teach courses in anatomy and physiology
Preferred Qualifications:

One or more of the following:

  • PhD
  • Prior university teaching experience
  • Experience teaching anatomy and physiology
