Viterbo is seeking an Academic and Career Advisor who will work as part of the HUB for Student Success team to provide support, resources, opportunities, systems, and services that promote student academic and career success. This role will serve on a team of other primary points of contact for undergraduates with the goal of improving retention and graduation rates. The role supports student success through career programming, employer engagement, tutoring coordination, and career preparation resources.

This is a full-time, permanent, 12-month position. Responsibilities:

Manage caseload of select freshmen, sophomore, transfer, and bachelor completion students.

Provide balanced support, grounded in the appreciative advising model, to help students identify strengths, clarify career goals/interests, understand degree requirements, create graduation plans, schedule and register for coursework, understand the use of advising technology tools, and assist students with the transition to college and their major areas of study

Accurately advise on curriculum, academic programs (majors, minors, certificates), degree requirements, and engagement options (service learning, study abroad, internships, research)
Serve as an Academic Advising liaison to a specific college or school, collaborating to update sample graduation plans and assist in providing faculty advisor training and support

Utilize the Starfish Early Alert systems to ensure student success through applying timely, individual intervention to support and follow-up with students Participate in and help with HUB programming: welcome back bash, workshops, visit days, new student registration (STAR), new student orientation, etc.

Promote students' utilization of the university's academic support and engagement resources to maximize the student experience

Serve as point person for the planning, execution, marketing, evaluation, and documentation of career programming (e.g. career fairs, special events, and ongoing programs) and employer visits.

Deliver classroom presentations and attend university events on above topics and resources. Serve as point person for Handshake and other career resources.

Teach the 1-credit, half-semester UNST 310 Career Preparation course.

Manage the Threads to Thrive Career Closet in collaboration with the College of Business and Marketing Club.

Collaborate with the Reading, Writing, and Career Specialist to assist students and alumni in developing effective resumes, cover letters, personal statements, interviewing skills, job search strategies, salary negotiation techniques, and financial wellness plans.

Schedule tutoring, administer surveys, and maintain accurate data on tutoring requirements, availability, requests, paperwork, timesheets and other related information; recruit and coordinate tutors that meet eligibility requirements.

Develop resources for department website, handouts, brochures, social media, and displays. Serve on appointed and elected university committees

Carry out other responsibilities as delegated or assigned to support the development, achievement, and tracking of HUB initiatives and goals.

Qualifications:

Master's degree preferred; will consider candidates with bachelor's degree who possess relevant experience. Experience working in higher education, preferred experience in academic or career advising.

Skills:

Strong organizational, project management, marketing, and technology skills. Well-developed interpersonal, presentation, and group facilitation skills with ability to disseminate complex information.

Strong attention to detail and excellent time management and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently while maintaining collaborative spirit with colleagues.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer literacy (e-mail, web searching, reporting, spreadsheet management).Demonstrate and advance Viterbo's core values (Contemplation, Hospitality, Integrity, Stewardship, and Service) and the liberal arts tradition;
Be able to articulate the nature and advantages of a liberal arts education.
