The City of La Crosse is seeking to hire a full-time Communications Coordinator in the Mayor’s office. Reporting to the Mayor, this professional position is responsible for managing strategic internal and external communications, supporting mayoral and City of La Crosse initiatives, and stewarding community partnerships. The incumbent is expected to coordinate communication efforts across the organization, with the goal of creating and promoting greater transparency for residents and elected officials.

This role maintains positive relationships between the City and the public, while providing responsive, accurate, and timely information relating to public interest. Annual wage for this exempt position ranges between $73,028.80 - $83,657.60 depending on qualifications (80 hours bi-weekly), with potential to earn up to $95,825.60.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field with three to five years communications, public relations, or community relations experience; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. Effective public relations and communication skills. Effective strategic visioning skills. Must demonstrate proficient computer skills including analytical comprehension. Valid driver’s license required.

Purpose of Position

The purpose of the Communications Coordinator position is to coordinate all strategic communications, marketing, and branding efforts for the City of La Crosse. The Communications Coordinator role is to convey, internally and externally, communications regarding City programs, services, policy decisions, community events, and other related information important to residents, businesses and visitors.

The Communications Coordinator contributes to enhancing the image and reputation of the City of La Crosse by carrying out strategic external communications and brand promotion. The Communications Coordinator will also help foster a positive organizational climate by building relationships that improve internal communications amongst staff, with state and local elected officials, community stakeholders and the media.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain communication programs and initiatives to ensure both internal and external awareness and understanding of key City initiatives and current projects.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to leverage a range of outreach tools and technology to connect with residents and enable interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Manages the City’s social media presence by engaging with residents both proactively and responsively as necessary while adhering to internal and external policy.
  • Coordinate all communication services and functions carried out by City departments and provide guidance on effective methods and strategies to communicate with the public.
