Schedule

2 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Every other weekend.

Job Summary

The RN provides skilled nursing care to residents according to established care plans and in compliance with federal and state regulations. The RN provides guidance and direction to ancillary staff, monitors workflow to ensure coordination of care, and uses the nursing process for assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.

Responsibilities
  • Provide quality care to acute, sub‑acute, and chronically ill residents, administer medications and treatments, and maintain competency in all required nursing skills.
  • Provide direction to CNAs and monitor the unit workflow to ensure coordination of care.
  • Use the nursing process for assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Report significant changes to physician as indicated.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of medications at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Ensure accurate distribution of medications to all residents according to the 5 rights and monitor for medication side effects.
  • Provide guidance and direction to auxiliary staff and participate in report meetings at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Communicate with residents, guardians, and family members on the current condition and needs of residents in accordance with regulations and standards of practice.
  • Provide teaching and training to residents and families as needed.
  • Ensure preventative measures such as specialty mattresses, foam boots, weekly skin checks, turning/repositioning schedules, toileting schedules, and cushions in all wheelchairs are in place.
  • Follow up on reports of rashes, open areas, edema, blisters, skin tears, or bleeding.
  • Respond promptly to alarms and ensure restraint alternatives are activated (personal alarms, cushion alarms, wheelchair belts, tumble mats, alarm mats, bolstered beds, hip protectors).
  • Provide and ensure quality end‑of‑life care, using a comfort basket to meet resident and family needs.
  • Ensure hygiene, comfort, and spiritual needs are met, treat pain/restlessness, and offer family courtesy meal trays and other amenities.
  • Demonstrate compliance with post‑mortem care procedures and participate in departure ceremonies.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner, perform point‑of‑care testing as needed, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or equivalent education for licensing.
  • No prior experience required.
Physical Requirements
  • Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication.
  • Constant standing and walking; frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing 0‑25lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, reaching and keyboard use/data entry; frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors; frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication and hear alarms.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling of objects weighing 25‑50lbs; occasional lifting/moving of patients.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements; occasional driving.
  • Rare crawling and running.
Required Licenses & Certifications
  • State of Illinois:
    Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA) and Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
  • State of Missouri: BLS HCP – AHA and Registered Nurse (RN) – Missouri Division of Professional Registration or RN issued by Compact State.
