Under the supervision of the Campus Community Safety Coordinator, the Campus Safety Officer performs a wide variety of campus safety services using a community‑oriented model to prevent violence and theft, to provide access to college facilities, and to respond to incidents affecting campus safety and security. The Officer serves as a field training officer, mentoring student security officers and providing training on building‑level patrol procedures.
The role involves enforcing the rules and regulations governing students, faculty, and staff with superior customer service and ethical integrity.
Work is generally performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. Duties may require short travel from site to site, exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid or windy conditions caused by weather, and work during irregular hours.
The Campus Safety Officer position is a non‑sworn position and is not authorized to carry a firearm or make arrests.
Shifts may include overnights and weekends and will be 21 hours per week.
- Mentor student Campus Safety officers and provide training on building‑level patrol procedures.
- Patrol campus facilities and parking lots and enforce parking regulations.
- Collect and transport cash deposits from various locations to financial institutions.
- Check assigned areas for non‑authorized individuals and/or suspicious activities.
- Provide customer service to students, staff, and the public at Western Campus locations.
- Immediately report any serious incident to the proper authority and provide incident assistance as directed.
- Check for maintenance problems and safety/security concerns while completing patrols.
- Complete duty reports, incident reports, and injury reports as needed.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- 18 years old at time of hire.
- Experience in security, law enforcement, or corrections.
- Valid Driver’s License at time of hire.
This position reports to:
Campus Community Safety Coordinator.
Hourly salary range based on education and experience: $17.75.
