Administration and Finance Division - Compensation: $19.23 per hour
- Location:
UW–La Crosse campus (academic buildings, residence halls, student centers)
- Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on electrical, plumbing, heating, residential and commercial kitchen equipment, building envelope, and other mechanical systems.
- Work independently while making judgement calls on emergencies; respond to after‑hours emergencies as required.
- Maintain shop, tools, and vehicle; order materials and supplies; complete work order forms and reports.
- Repair or replace steam traps, steam valves, pneumatic compressors, air handling units, exhaust systems, and HVAC components.
- Carry out mechanical, plumbing, and electrical repairs including soldering, pipe threading, fixture repair, electrical switchwork, and kitchen equipment service.
- Assemble, repair, refinish furniture; install windows, doors, blinds, flooring, repaint surfaces; oversee installation of electrical, data, and cable wiring.
- Coordinate with trade employees and Information Technology Services on complex installations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Capable of grasping, lifting, or carrying up to 75 pounds routinely.
- Work in various positions: arms above head, bending, twisting, crawling, squatting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, on scaffolding, ladders, stairs, standing, sitting.
- Confined areas, extreme temperatures, hot/dirty/noisy/dust‑filled environments, heights over 30 feet.
- May be contacted outside scheduled shifts for emergency repairs.
- Must wear steel or composite‑toe footwear compliant with ASTM F2413.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with plumbing, mechanical, and electrical repairs.
- Valid driver’s license meeting state vehicle criteria.
- Ability to wear protective equipment.
- Analytical skills to diagnose equipment failures.
- Mathematical skills for cost estimates and inventory.
- Ability to handle stressful and emergency situations.
- Initiative for preventive maintenance measures.
- Associate’s degree in a related field.
- Experience in construction, carpentry, or maintenance.
- Experience with commercial kitchen equipment installation or repair.
- Experience in higher education facilities.
- Knowledge of job functions with minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance, work‑order, time‑reporting, and inventory control software.
- Effective oral and written communication in English.
