The Counselor, Underserved Populations Coordinator will function as a strong generalist conducting mental health assessments (intakes), urgent care (crisis) assessments, triage assessments and professional counseling services (including individual, couples, group) especially but not exclusively to students from populations who are less likely to access counseling services (underserved populations). Other responsibilities include referral, consultation, in‑service training, and outreach, as well as crisis intervention services and public relations services to campus and community members as appropriate.

Independent licensure is required for this position.

The Counselor, Underserved Populations Coordinator is under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of the Counseling & Testing Center (CTC) with a secondary supervisory relationship with the Vice Chancellor for Access, Belonging & Compliance (AB&

C). Other responsibilities include developing and fostering relationships with departments that serve underserved populations, as well as belonging focused student organizations and groups; developing procedures with AB&C campus partners to better respond to student mental health needs; providing consultation, outreach, and training to AB&C offices/staff. This position will have a primary office within CTC and a secondary location within a partnered AB&C office.

The Counselor will also participate in staff, student affairs, and university committees. Similar to all staff at the CTC, the successful candidate will work to make UW-La welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, and they will do so in compliance with ethical, legal, and accreditation guidelines.

This is a 10-month, annual appointment. The successful candidate will be working full time for 10 months of the year (August 1 to May 31), and will be put on short work break for the months of June and July.

  • Typical office hours (7:45am‑4:30pm). Evening hours may be required as we expand our services (e.g., one evening/week), with a schedule adjustment made to maintain an average of 40 hours per week onsite. While no after‑hours crisis coverage is required, our clinical staff members occasionally provide evening outreach programming and may be called in for a campus crisis response.
  • Clinicians provide a combination of in‑person and telehealth counseling services.
