Inpatient Forensic Psychiatric Nurse

Job Description

A competent Psychiatric Registered Nurse who practices psychiatric-mental health nursing. Performs general nursing tasks for the holistic care and treatment of patients’ medical and psychiatric needs. This professional nurse shall possess specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that have been obtained through education and experience in caring for persons with behavioral health needs, psychiatric disorders, co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders.

• Participate in assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, and implementation.
• Coordinate care and provide health teaching and promotion to a unique patient population.
• Provide individual and group counseling, including communication, interviewing techniques, problem‑solving activities, crisis intervention, stress management, supportive skill building, educational groups, relaxation techniques, assertiveness training, and conflict resolution.
• Manage safety and maintain therapeutic milieu in a secure forensic facility.
• Engage in mission‑driven leadership focused on patient care and quality improvement.
• Follow facility policies and procedures, time and attendance policies, and be eligible for overtime, recall, held over, and irregular day/shift rotation as needed.

This position is deemed essential and has been designated for mandatory operations by the Appointing Authority; therefore, the staff member is not eligible for Adverse Weather Leave.
