Position description

The Global Health Program (GHP) at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. GHP invites applicants for an opportunity for temporary, non-tenure track, lecturer (Unit 18) positions to teach GHP courses for the upcoming academic year.

GHP is looking for Lecturers with demonstrated teaching experience in related disciplines ranging from medical anthropology, public health, global health, epidemiology, and medical social sciences. Courses may be at the graduate or undergraduate level and are in the area of global health related topics.

The position is expected to be in-person and classes will be held on the UC San Diego Campus.

Job responsibilities:

* Teach assigned courses during the scheduled time on the schedule of classes.

* Outside of course time and as needed, develop syllabi, pedagogically effective assignments, lecture slides, lesson plans, exams, and/or other course materials and/or prompts for student work.

* Responding and providing feedback to students and their assignments.

* Hold regularly scheduled office hours.

* Academic responsibility per Article 3 of the current UC-AFT MOU bargaining agreement.

* Potentially provide instruction and guidance to teaching assistants, instructional assistants, and readers.

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates applying must be at ABD or have a doctorate degree (PhD, MD, ScD/DSc, Ed. D, MD).

Have professional or teaching experience in the fields of medical anthropology, public health, global health, epidemiology, or a medical social science.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Doctorate degree (PhD, MD, ScD/DSc, Ed. D, MD)

Preferred qualifications
  • Candidates with a Phd and at least 1 year of teaching or mentoring experience

  • Candidates with PhD and at least 3 years of professional experience in the fields of medical anthropology, public health, global health, epidemiology, or a medical social science
