Working collaboratively with Lead Teachers and program staff, the Child Development Teacher helps create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that promotes children's cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and language development.

The incumbent assists with the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum and classroom activities, supports children's daily care needs, and fosters positive relationships with children and families. This position plays an important role in maintaining a welcoming, inclusive classroom environment that encourages exploration, creativity, mutual respect, and a positive sense of self.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and implementing age-appropriate curriculum and learning experiences that support children's growth and development across a variety of learning domains, including language, creative arts, dramatic play, science, problem-solving, social-emotional learning, multicultural awareness, and outdoor exploration.
  • Create and maintain a warm, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, engagement, and individualized learning opportunities for all children.
  • Observe, assess, and document children's development using established assessment tools and classroom documentation practices.
  • Maintain active supervision of children at all times, ensuring compliance with required adult-to-child ratios and established health and safety standards.
  • Support children's daily care routines, including hygiene, diapering, toileting, meal and snack service, and overall well-being.
  • Monitor classroom and outdoor environments to ensure spaces remain safe, sanitary, organized, and conducive to learning.
  • Follow established procedures for emergency response, child supervision, and health and safety practices.
  • Develop positive partnerships with families through daily communication, parent conferences, and ongoing collaboration regarding children's progress and experiences.
  • Assist with maintaining attendance records, child observations, assessments, lesson plans, incident documentation, and other program records.
  • Collaborate with Lead Teachers and program staff to support program quality and maintain compliance with applicable licensing, accreditation, and program standards.

Candidate must possess and maintain the Child Development Teacher Permit level credential or above from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
