The Medical Oncology unit prides itself on offering excellence in patient care. As a Model Care and designated training unit, you will have the opportunity to positively impact new nurses and be part of fostering new grads to be successful.
Ø As Clinical Coach, you will demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changes in nursing practice, standards of care, and dynamic situations. Ø Relief charge nurse, clinical coach and preceptor for new graduate nurses during an intensive 40-week program, demonstrates clinical knowledge and technical expertise. Ø Promote clinical reasoning, including decision making, critical thinking, and global grasp of the situation. Demonstrate ability to problem-solve and utilize tact and understanding when dealing with patients, team members of other disciplines.
Ø Be involved in unit committees: monthly skin rounds, unit practice council, new grad pinning ceremonies, and clinical coach meetings. Ø Assess patients, identifies needs, and develops care plans accordingly. Ø Educate patients and families spanning from admission to discharge. Ø Review all patient orders and labs, collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to ensure positive patient outcomes and treatment plans.
Ø Provide complex medical treatments: blood product transfusion, TPN administration, heparin drip calculation and monitoring, central intravenous line care and medication administration. Ø Be skilled in post-surgical and wound care: chest tubes, JP drains, IR drains, woundVAC, various wound dressings, pain management.
Experience/Specialized
Skills:
A minimum of two years bedside nursing required. Previous experience in a preceptor role preferred. Consistently demonstrates advanced skills in each of the following domains.
