Research Data Analyst I - Medicine

The Department of Medicine (DoM) is the largest department within the UCSD School of Medicine (SoM) and is responsible for fulfilling its teaching, research, and clinical missions. DoM employees approximately 500 salaried faculty, nearly 200 academic appointees, and more than 300 residents, fellows, and postdocs, supported by almost 1,000 staff members. The Division of Nephrology-Hypertension is a leader in clinical care, research, and the training of future nephrologists.

The division offers multiple and diverse research activities which include clinical, translational and basic science research. In addition, there are a variety of clinical programs: chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), general nephrology, apheresis, and kidney transplantation.

Under direct supervision, the Research Data Analyst will perform statistical analysis of small and large datasets for quality control, preparation of analysis and assist with developing composite variables. They will provide assistance to faculty, staff, students, and trainees for statistical analysis of simple to moderate complexity by providing input to study design, analysis plans, and interpretation of results. The incumbent will do the same to assess statistical power to facilitate study design and recruitment goals.

They will contribute to manuscript preparation, grant proposals, development of presentations for conferences. The incumbent may use different statistical packages including python, R, STATA and SAS. They will assist in communications with the institutional review board and with funding agencies for new project submissions and annual reports.

Under direct supervision, acquires skills and knowledge of professional concepts in research data analysis. Works on small projects or segments of projects with limited scope and complexity.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area.
  • Acquiring knowledge of research function. Acquiring ability to perform research analysis duties.
  • Acquiring statistical analysis, systems programming, and database design skills to perform research analysis duties.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and see assigned parts of projects through to completion on deadline.
  • Basic consultation and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience focused on statistical modeling in kidney disease preferred.
  • Experience in statistical sample size calculations preferred.

Special Conditions:

  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.
