Job Summary

Otero College seeks a student centered faculty member who is passionate about teaching, learning, and student success. Full-time faculty are responsible for delivering effective instruction, maintaining academic excellence, supporting student retention and completion through advising and mentoring, and contributing to ongoing program and curriculum development.

Faculty actively participate in college governance, assessment, recruitment, community engagement, and professional development activities. Through collaboration, innovation, and service, faculty help create an inclusive learning environment that empowers students to become the best version of themselves while strengthening the communities Otero College serves.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Instructional Duties:
    • Prepare and update course syllabi annually; distribute and review with students.
    • Teach assigned courses and maintain scheduled class times.
    • Use instructional methods appropriate for diverse student backgrounds and learning styles.
    • Create a supportive and engaging learning environment.
    • Revise teaching methods for improved learning outcomes.
    • Promote and assess achievement of course/program competencies.
    • Maintain accurate student records including attendance and grades.
    • Participate in curriculum development and revision.
    • Encourage students to use academic and support services.
    • Refer students to tutorial and other support resources and conduct follow‑up.
    • Integrate technology into teaching when appropriate.
  • Advising & Student Support:
    • Advise and/or mentor students in assigned programs.
    • Assist students with academic and/or career planning.
    • Participate in student recruitment and orientation.
  • Assessment, Curriculum & Program Review:
    • Assist with assessments and curricular updates at course, program, and institutional levels.
    • Participate in articulation efforts with high schools and colleges.
    • Participate in state‑mandated program reviews and reporting.
    • Maintain an active Advisory Board, ensuring regular engagement with industry stakeholders by organizing and leading a minimum of two advisory committee meetings annually.
    • Maintain and store documentation including, but not limited to, PQAPs, Advisory Board minutes, equipment lists, and VE‑135 follow‑up documentation.
  • College & Community Engagement:
    • Serve on college committees and attend faculty meetings.
    • Contribute to campus events, advisory boards, and recruitment activities.
    • Represent the college at community or professional events.
    • Promote a favorable image of the college and program.
  • Professional Development:
    • Maintain required CTE credential(s), licenses, and certifications.
    • Participate in professional growth activities such as workshops, conferences, memberships.
    • Complete performance evaluations with supervisors.
    • Stay current in instructional and industry trends.
  • Other:
    • Maintain equipment and supply inventories and request equipment repairs.
    • Submit reports and documentation by deadlines.
    • Participate in marketing activities such as career fairs and school visits.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Program

    Specific Duties :
    • Coordinate acquisition and maintenance of necessary construction trades equipment, supplies and materials.
    • Coordinate and manage all aspects of the job site related to current construction trades projects.
    • Responsible for hiring work study/hourly student workers and establish course and work schedules.
    • Occasional lifting and carrying objects up to 75 pounds, frequent lifting and carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and/or continuous lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 10-20 pounds.
    • Maintain safety protocols within the lab and on the project site.
