Job Summary

Otero College seeks a student centered faculty member who is passionate about teaching, learning, and student success. As a comprehensive community college, faculty play a vital role in advancing the college's mission by providing high-quality instruction, fostering meaningful student engagement, and preparing learners for academic achievement, workforce readiness, and lifelong growth. Full-time faculty are responsible for delivering effective instruction, maintaining academic excellence, supporting student retention and completion through advising and mentoring, and contributing to ongoing program and curriculum development.

Faculty actively participate in college governance, assessment, recruitment, community engagement, and professional development activities. Through collaboration, innovation, and service, faculty help create an inclusive learning environment that empowers students to become the best version of themselves while strengthening the communities Otero College serves.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Participates in the planning, teaching and evaluating the theory, laboratory and clinical experience for students in any of the following courses that the applicant qualifies to teach:
    • Fundamentals of Nursing
    • Basic Concepts of Pharmacology/Advanced Concepts of Pharmacology
    • Psychiatric-Mental Health
    • Introduction to Medical Surgical Nursing Concepts/Advanced Medical-Surgical Concepts
    • Maternal-Child Nursing Concepts (must have experience in Maternal-Child Nursing)
  • Responsible for student advising and outreaches to students who are struggling in the nursing field.
  • Participates in faculty planning, evaluation and revision of program curriculum.
  • Participates in conducting program and college accreditation reviews and reports.
  • Participates in the evaluation and selection of current textbooks for assigned courses.
  • Maintains currency in the nursing field to ensure compliance with the Colorado Board of Nursing.
  • Participates in maintaining instructional and laboratory equipment, including ordering and care of equipment.
  • Participates in budget planning to provide a cutting-edge learning environment.
  • Conduct student recruitment through information sessions and other outreach activities.
  • Demonstrate competent leadership abilities, maintain positive interpersonal relationships with faculty, staff and students.
  • Be creative and committed to teaching excellence and have the willingness to improve student learning by assessing student programs and campus learning outcomes.
  • Utilize college technologies (Learning Management System) for the delivery of instructional information.
  • Coordinates clinical schedules as assigned.
  • Maintains office hours (at least 10 hours a week).
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with the ability to obtain a MSN within 3 years of hire.
    • Must hold a current unencumbered Registered Nurse license from the state of Colorado.
