RN - ICU

Profession: Registered Nurse

Hours per Shift: 12

Experience: Minimum 1 year

License: Current Registered Nurse license

Certifications: Current BLS certification, Current ACLS, PALS required

Must-Have:
  • Strong Intermediate Care Nurse Skills
  • Ability to manage a ventilator and telemetry monitoring
  • Ability to manage insulin drips

Description:

Provide direct and indirect patient care in the ICU setting.

Communicate with physicians and coworkers regarding changes in patient’s clinical condition.

Respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.

Perform general nursing duties in various departments with adequate supervision.

Demonstrate competency in the following areas:

Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age and clinical condition.

Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and conduct reassessments as per policy.

Revise the plan of care based on the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate the overall plan daily for effectiveness.

Formulate a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluate learning effectiveness, including family involvement as appropriate.

Utilize pain management assessment techniques and educate patients and families regarding pain management.

Demonstrate ability to perform treatments and provide services.

Possess knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identify dysrhythmias, and report appropriately.

Communicate professionally with nursing leadership, coworkers, and physicians.

Consult other departments as appropriate for an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.

Provide care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient.

Assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills.

Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stressful situations.

Treat patients and families with respect and dignity.

Identify and address the psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and families.

Act as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.

Interact professionally with patients and families, involving them in the care plan formation.

Maintain good working relationships within the department and with other departments.

Ensure documentation meets current standards and policies and is legible and accurate.

Identify and address psychosocial needs of patients and families and communicate with discharge planners about post-discharge needs.

Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly, reporting repairs as needed.

Coordinate and supervise patient care as necessary.

Understand and assist in core measures.

Professional Requirements:

Meet dress code standards; appearance must be neat and clean.

Complete annual educational requirements and maintain regulatory requirements.

Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Report to work on time as scheduled and complete work within designated time.

Wear identification while on duty.

Attend annual reviews and department in-services as scheduled.

Participate in staff meetings annually.

Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.

Actively participate in quality improvement activities.

Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.

Communicate the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility.

Regulatory Requirements:

Current Registered Nurse license.

Current BLS certification.

Current ACLS certification.

PALS required within one year of hire.

Successful completion of arrhythmia competency within six months of hire.

Language

Skills:

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Additional languages preferred.

Skills:

Basic computer knowledge.

Physical Demands:

Regularly required to stand and walk.

Use hands repetitively to handle or manipulate objects.

Reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Talk and hear instructions from staff.

Occasionally required to sit.

Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.

Work Environment:

Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

There is a risk of electric shock and radiation.
