The Stormwater Technician performs manual and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, cleaning, and repair of the City’s stormwater drainage system. Under the supervision of the Stormwater Foreman, this position supports the upkeep of open ditches, storm drains, culverts, and other stormwater infrastructure. The technician assists with storm preparation, flood mitigation, and emergency response efforts.

Stormwater System Maintenance
  • Clean, clear, and maintain open ditches, culverts, storm drains, and inlets to ensure proper drainage.
  • Remove debris, sediment, and blockages from drainage structures and outfalls.
  • Support minor repairs to stormwater infrastructure such as resetting inlets and replacing grates.
Field Operations & Safety
  • Assist in setup of work zones with proper signage and traffic control devices.
  • Operate hand tools and light equipment to perform maintenance activities.
  • Follow all safety protocols and environmental regulations during fieldwork.
Inspection & Documentation
  • Conduct visual inspections of drainage infrastructure and report issues to the Foreman.
  • Complete basic reports and logs related to work performed and materials used.
  • Support stormwater system mapping and data collection for maintenance records.
Emergency Response & Storm Prep
  • Assist in preparing storm drains and ditches ahead of forecasted weather events.
  • Respond to drainage complaints, flooding incidents, and weather-related emergencies.
  • Support post-storm debris removal and system assessments. Other Duties
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.
    Skills & Competencies
    • Basic understanding of drainage systems and stormwater maintenance practices.
    • Ability to use hand tools and light equipment for outdoor labor.
    • Willingness to work in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
    • Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
    • Commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
    Education & Experience
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum of 1 year of experience in public works, stormwater, or drainage maintenance preferred.
