Parent Care Family Recovery Services are designed to support chemically dependent women and their families who are at high risk for child abuse, domestic violence and homelessness. The majority of women in treatment also have a dual psychiatric diagnosis and a host of physical health related issues. As a local leader in the development of family-centered recovery services, Parent Care makes a significant difference in preventing child abuse and reducing perinatal drug and alcohol exposure.
It also plays a critical partnership role with County Child Welfare Services, drug and family courts, local hospitals and community collaboratives in order to ensure the utmost level of comprehensive care for these women and their families.
Under general supervision the Developmental Specialist position is responsible for providing assessments for children in the Therapeutic Learning Center to determine correct placement, developmental, educational and consulting services to children and their parents. This position develops plans for the children, and assists the program’s Teachers, Teacher Aids and Volunteer staff in implementation. This position works with other disciplines to provide continuity of the educational program.
The Developmental Specialist provides support and resources as needed.
Duties include:
- Providing high quality effective developmental and educational consulting services to children and their parents.
- Providing support to the program’s Teacher Aids and volunteer staff as needed.
- Must be able to physically assist children with mobility issues and care needs.
- Any field work portion of the job may require driving.
- Maintains staff records.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws and Department of Education requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood development, child development, education, counseling or related field.
- California Commission on Teacher Credentialing permit required;
Site Supervisor permit strongly preferred. - Minimum of 5 years’ experience with preschool or early intervention program required.
- Experience in the field of chemical dependency preferred.
- This job is very physical in nature – applicants must be able to move quickly, bend, reach, push, pull, and lift up to 40lbs unassisted.
- Must offer certain linguistic, gender, cultural and ethnic specific skills: must be able to work with culturally diverse population.
- Must be free of parole and probation for a period specified by program contract.
- Must have a valid California driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check, TB and drug screen.
20 hours a week, Monday – Friday 9am-1pm
PAY$24 per hour
This is a starting rate and may be adjusted up based on education and experience.
Current Vista Hill employees in this job title for 2025 are paid $24 - $25 an hour.
BENEFITSEmployees working over 30 hours a week receive employer-paid benefits, including medical, dental, vision, paid time off (vacation and sick leave), paid holidays, employer-paid retirement contribution and clinical supervision (if applicable). Employees who work less than 30 hours a week do not qualify for healthcare benefits.
