Mentor Teacher/Coach – All Kids Academy Head Start, Inc.
Location: La Mesa, CA
Pay Range: $28.47/hr - $34.61/hr
Job Summary: The Mentor Teacher/Coach works under the direction of the Center Director, delivering high-quality school readiness programs and comprehensive services that empower children, families, and communities. The role involves coaching, mentoring, observing classrooms, providing feedback, and supporting administrative duties while ensuring compliance with Head Start standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in mentoring and training education staff to support school readiness measures and program quality.
- Conduct classroom observations, provide feedback to teachers, and improve teacher-child interactions and curriculum implementation.
- Provide technical support and direct coaching and mentoring to classroom teachers as assigned.
- Use evidence-based tools such as CLASS, Creative Curriculum Fidelity Tool, and ECRs for classroom observation.
- Assist with planning and monitoring educational component services under the Education Department.
- Provide reflective coaching to ensure alignment with the AKA Head Start philosophy.
- Promote and support professional development of education staff.
- Ensure instruction is responsive, intentional, and developmentally appropriate across all child development domains.
- Meet all Head Start Performance Standards, state and local licensing requirements.
- Assume administrative responsibilities in the absence of the Center Director.
- Attend workshops, conferences, and trainings required to support program goals.
- Help establish and maintain a safe, healthy, nurturing, and inviting learning environment.
- Build positive relationships with parents.
- Submit action plans, reports, and data analyses while keeping coaching sessions confidential.
Minimum
Employment Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Early Intervention, or a related field.
- 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education or Child Development courses, including three semester units of supervised field experience in an Early Childhood Education setting.
- Site Supervisor Permit from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) or ability to obtain a permit within 90 days of employment.
- Minimum four years of experience as a classroom teacher.
Physical Requirements:
- Good manual dexterity to demonstrate activities or run instructional equipment.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to reach overhead and horizontally.
- Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, crouch to assist children.
- Excellent hearing and speaking abilities, including in noisy environments.
- Proficiency in typing and using a computer terminal keyboard.
- Good vision for reading materials and monitoring children’s activities.
- Ability to walk for extended periods, climb, and occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.

Additional Information: Candidates must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or eligible documentation, be fingerprinted and cleared through the Department of Justice, and obtain health screening, TB clearance, and proof of immunization against measles and pertussis (MMR and Tdap) before employment.
