Junker Gonzalez Engineering Group (JGEG) is a small, dynamic structural engineering firm located in La Mesa Village. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Structural Designer (EIT) or Design Engineer (PE) to join our team. This position is intentionally flexible and may be filled at different experience levels depending on qualifications.
The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation, sound judgment, and a desire to grow within a collaborative, hands-on engineering environment.
Position OverviewAs a Structural Designer or Design Engineer at JGEG, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality structural engineering solutions across a variety of project types. You will work closely with principals and senior engineers, gaining increasing responsibility and technical autonomy commensurate with experience and licensure.
Key ResponsibilitiesDepending on experience level, responsibilities may include:
- Preparing structural engineering calculations, reports, and technical deliverables
- Coordinating with drafters to develop efficient and constructible construction documents
- Participating in multidisciplinary design team meetings and consultant coordination
- Supporting construction administration activities, including:
- Site visits and field observations
- Submittal review and contractor RFI responses
- Project closeout documentation
- For licensed engineers, assuming increasing responsibility for:
- Design decisions and engineering judgment
- Client communication and technical leadership
- Mentorship of junior staff (as appropriate)
We are open to candidates across a range of experience levels.
Required:- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Strong academic focus on structural and seismic engineering
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Attention to detail and sound engineering judgment (or the ability to develop it)
- Entry-level to mid-level experience (typically 0–8+ years
) - FE exam passed / EIT certification preferred for entry-level candidates
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred for more experienced candidates
- Familiarity with structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, SAFE, RAM, AutoCAD, and Revit
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, such as IBC, CBC, ASCE 7, ASCE 41, ACI 318, AISC 360, and TMS 402 (depth expected to increase with experience)
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and licensure.
- Base Salary Range: $75,000–$120,000 annually (good-faith estimate pursuant to pay transparency laws)
