Position: Per Diem RN A4 - Outpatient Wound Center - Sharp Grossmont Hospital - Per Diem - Days

Hours:

Shift Start Time: 7 AM, Shift End Time: 3:30 PM

AWS Hours Requirement: 8/80 – 8 Hour Shift

Hourly Pay Range: $61.740 – $70.170 – $90.160 (Minimum – Midpoint – Maximum). The stated pay scale reflects the range as defined by the collective bargaining agreement between Sharp Health Care and Sharp Professional Nurses Network, United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals, NUHHCE, AFSME, AFL‑CIO. Placement within the range is based on years of RN experience.

What You Will Do
  • Provide direct and indirect nursing services to patients and families.
  • Delegate and communicate expectations for care delivery processes to each member of the team, knowing what can and cannot be delegated.
  • Analyze each situation, determine and apply appropriate levels of supervision (unsupervised, initial direction and periodic inspection, continuous supervision, or should not be delegated).
  • Assess appropriateness of physician orders and question the physician when appropriate.
  • Document per department/entity guidelines to create a comprehensive, concise picture of patient care.
  • Serve as a resource for other staff in managing unit-specific documentation issues.
  • Establish a therapeutic relationship with patients and families, anticipating and addressing barriers such as spiritual, cultural, language, or communication issues.
  • Activate patient advocacy by removing obstacles, identifying and supporting needs, and interpreting between patient and physician.
  • Assist and support coworkers, provide positive feedback, and teach other team members.
  • Provide age-appropriate patient education on recovery, self-care, end-of-life care, health maintenance, and wellness.
  • Coordinate transfer and discharge planning, collaborating with the health care team.
  • Develop, revise, and implement patient education materials, applying adult learning principles.
  • Use systematic planning, appropriate methods, and timely information exchange to coordinate care.
  • Focus on and manage multiple patient needs, communicating with the team to plan patient care.
  • Utilize available resources to problem-solve and determine effective actions.
  • Apply the nursing process and critical thinking to provide patient care that is individualized, goal-directed, and aligned with current safety standards.
  • Identify and evaluate risk factors, adjust care plans as needs change, and determine referrals based on ongoing assessment.
  • Act as preceptor/teacher, guiding nurses in applying the nursing process for specific unit populations.
  • Implement safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with complex needs due to multisystem disease or treatment complications.
  • Demonstrate accountability for achieving patient outcomes and quick recognition of diagnoses, even when symptoms vary.
Required Qualifications
  • Graduated from nursing school.
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience.
  • California Registered Nurse (RN) – CA Board of Registered Nursing.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare – American Heart Association).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Independently perform the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) for individualized care.
  • Provide safe nursing care in complex situations with some assistance and supervision.
  • Demonstrate competency in all unit skills and advanced skills, and teach essential skill competencies.
  • Coordinate patient care administered by the care team and may serve as relief charge nurse.
  • Use common equipment and medications safely, consulting others when unfamiliar.
  • Recognize inconsistencies in patient care and manage potential complications.
  • Maintain consistent organization and prioritization of workload.
