Overview
Tree Treks is a community engagement and building program designed to connect San Diego residents with their local parks and trails while fostering a shared interest in trees and native plants.
Please note that this is not a "working" volunteer event and will not count for volunteer hours. Tree Treks are a free arborist-led information tree walk, aimed at bringing the community together to educate those who attend on the tree species within San Diego County.
The program's primary objective is to cultivate a sense of community by encouraging neighbors to bond over learning about the diverse flora within their local parks. As participants embark on the monthly Tree Trek, they will have the opportunity to engage in an arborist-led conversation that will focus on the identification and characteristics of trees, their benefits, and the history of the parks where they grow.
The selected Tree Trek parks are located throughout San Diego County, ensuring accessibility for a broad audience. Utilizing publicly-available Tree Plotter mapping software, this platform will inventory walk routes and provide tree eco-benefits information “live” at any time. Attendees who complete all 10 Tree Treks events will receive their own tree sapling and seed packet, promoting environmental stewardship and allowing participants to contribute to the growth of our urban forest.
How much does it cost to participate? Tree San Diego asks that volunteers consider making a $5 donation to help support this engaging program, but donations are not required in order to participate in Tree Treks.
How do I receive my prizes? If individuals attend all of the Tree Treks scheduled for the calendar year, they will receive a tree sapling and tree seed packet at the last scheduled Tree Trek of the year. Additional prizes pending!
Can I bring my dog? Pets are welcome at the Tree Trek events so long as the park being visited allows them (please check the park's requirements in advance for leashing, etc.).
Do I need to bring anything? Please bring your own water (reusable water bottles encouraged!), snacks, and sunscreen as needed
