Assistant or Associate Professor, Christian Ministry & Leadership

Biola University announces the full-time, tenure‑track faculty position in the Christian Ministry & Leadership graduate programs of Talbot School of Theology, beginning Fall 2027. The successful candidate will begin at the rank of assistant professor or associate professor (level to be determined in accordance with education and experience).

Candidates must be willing to relocate in order to work in residence at Talbot’s campus in La Mirada, CA or Phoenix, AZ.

Responsibilities

Faculty members are scholar‑practitioners who integrate Christian faith, academic excellence, and ministry practice in teaching, scholarship, and service. This faculty position fulfills the following duties:

  • Teach 21 credits per academic year in existing graduate courses; courses may be residential, online, or hybrid.
  • Provide academic and professional advisement to students.
  • Remain current in their field by engaging in research, scholarship, and publication.
  • Willingness to travel to teach as part of Talbot’s modular, hybrid, cohort courses.
  • Serve as a faculty team member on department and university committees as assigned.
  • Participate in campus, university, local church, and community service activities.
  • Participate in other professional duties.
Qualifications

Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate:

  • Completed doctorate or equivalent in a theological field or a similar field (required).
  • Demonstrated expertise in Christian ministry and/or leadership, including experience in church, parachurch, nonprofit, educational, or other ministry contexts.
  • Academic training, expertise, and research publications in the general discipline of Christian ministry, or a similar theological field.
  • Experience teaching in the field of Christian Ministry & Leadership, or a similar field with willingness to teach at the graduate level.
  • Ability to teach graduate courses online.
  • Demonstration of excellent teaching skills.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching, evidence of scholarly activity, and potential to make significant contributions to their scholarly fields.
  • Mature Christian character with a demonstrated commitment to service in their local church.
  • Willingness to travel to teach in modular hybrid cohort courses.
  • Significant ministry experience is strongly preferred.

Salary Range

Salary range: $82,047 – $96,134* ($72,201 – $84,598 – AZ). Pursuant to California pay transparency requirements, a salary range is provided for this position. Actual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, education, skills, and other factors permitted by law. Salary ranges may vary depending on the employee's primary work location. Accordingly, the salary range posted for positions located in California may differ from the salary range applicable to positions located in Arizona or other states.
