Responsibilities- Greet all customers and provide prompt, courteous service or assistance.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
- Maintain responsibility for cash drawer contents at the start and end of each shift.
- Account for cashier activities, including cash shortages and surpluses.
- Scan or record purchases efficiently and accurately.
- Know and recognize all produce types and varieties offered in the store.
- Assist customers with bulk products that are difficult to handle.
- Collect cash or checks from customers and provide accurate change per company policies.
- Process all sales transactions, including Accounts Receivable, EFT, WIC, Food Stamps, manufacturer coupons, and gift certificates, in strict compliance with company and legal requirements.
- Bag or package merchandise according to company policy.
- Handle damaged or spoiled products and perform return‑to‑stock procedures as required.
- Ring all sales into the cash register following cash handling procedures.
- Verify customer IDs and enforce policies regarding checks and alcoholic beverage sales.
- Notify management promptly of any irregularities or discrepancies exceeding the established cash variance threshold.
- Record price discrepancies or “not on file” items on designated forms and request price checks as needed.
- Maintain sanitation standards and keep checkout, sales, and storage areas clean and organized.
- Use and maintain equipment in good working order, reporting problems immediately.
- Adhere to company policy on excessive cash in registers and perform cash pickups as instructed.
- Observe security standards, stay alert to customer actions, and report abnormal behavior to management or security.
- Secure the register at all times when unattended and protect company assets.
- Notify department manager of personnel situations or policy violations affecting store performance.
- Perform any other work‑related duties as assigned.
- Assist in training associates and co‑workers when directed.
- Maintain good communication within the department and across the organization.
- Comply with all safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain a neat, well‑groomed appearance and follow company dress regulations.
- High school education preferred with successful completion of an apprenticeship/training program; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Perform calculations involving discounts, margins, percentages, ratios, and basic algebra for sales transactions, tendering, and vendor invoices.
- Accurately complete daily sales reports, inventory counts, receiving logs, and cash reconciliation or audit forms.
- Communicate effectively—listen, speak, and understand spoken English for assistance requests and telephone calls.
- Read, write, analyze, interpret, and understand English-language instructions and job-related documents.
- Required to sit, stand, and use hands for tasks.
- Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and frequently moderate weight.
- Have adequate near vision for checking IDs and written documents.
- Climb ladders, sweep, mop floors, dust shelves, and carry trash containers.
- Respond quickly to emergencies such as spills, shoplifting, or customer accidents.
- Work with fresh produce without allergic reactions.
- Tolerate moderate dust and chemical fumes from cleaning agents.
- Memorize weekly ads and daily produce specials.
- Work may include exposure to temperatures as low as 20°F and high temperatures in ovens.
- Typical noise level is moderate.
