The California Joint Powers Insurance Authority is seeking a skilled Data Analyst to join our dynamic team. The Data Analyst will interpret and analyze complex datasets to provide insights and support data-driven decision-making. Under the direction of the Chief Operations Office, the data analyst's responsibilities will include:

  • Complete the gathering, normalization, and cleaning processes for data from various sources, ensuring data integrity and quality.
  • Interpret results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation to more complex statistical analysis.
  • Develop and maintain trusted datasets, semantic models, dashboards, and analytical solutions that support operational and strategic decision making.
  • Standardize member, claims/loss, underwriting, payroll, training, CRM, and operational data into governed Lakehouse and semantic-model assets.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and actionable insights using statistical and business intelligence techniques.
  • Establish and govern KPIs, business metrics, data definitions, metadata, and data quality standards.
  • Collaborate with business and technology teams to optimize data architecture, data lake initiatives, and enterprise reporting capabilities.
  • Enable AI and Copilot readiness through effective data governance, cataloging, lineage, security, and information management practices.
  • Use statistical methods and techniques to identify patterns, trends, correlations, anomalies, and extract meaningful insights.
  • Develops and maintains dashboards, reports, and visualizations to communicate data findings effectively.
  • Identifies KPIs and develops metrics to track and measure business performance.
  • Collaborates with data engineers and IT professionals to optimize data collection, storage, normalization, and retrieval processes.
  • Work with a variety of stakeholders to include Risk Managers, Program Managers, and vendors.
  • Manage the collection, integration, normalization, governance, and quality of enterprise data across CJPIA business systems.

Experience

Minimum of three years of increasingly responsible experience as a data analyst, data scientist, BI analyst, or related profession. Proven project experience with programming languages such as SQL, Python, and R for data manipulation and analysis. Proven project experience with data analysis and visualization tools such as Power BI and Excel.

Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in data science, statistics, mathematics, information science, or a related field.
