This is an open recruitment to fill one current vacancy and to establish an eligibility list for future vacancies. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis. The position may close at any time without notice. First review June 1, 2026.
Effective July 1, 2025, new hires receive a hiring bonus of $13,000.00 paid in three installments: $5,000 on the first paycheck after hire, $4,000 on the first paycheck after successful completion of the probationary period, and $4,000 on the first paycheck after 42 months of continued employment.
Scope of Work and Examples of Duties Patrol- Patrol City in radio equipped car, on foot, bicycle or motorcycle; respond to calls for protection of life and property, enforcing City, County, and State laws.
- Conduct preliminary and follow up investigations of disturbances, burglaries, thefts, robberies, vehicle accidents, deaths, and other criminal incidents.
- Make arrests, interview victims, complaints, witnesses, and suspects; interrogate suspects, gather and preserve evidence.
- Testify and present evidence in court.
- Cooperate with other law enforcement agencies and prepare reports of arrests and activities.
- Check building security, perform searches, fingerprints, transports prisoners, and administer CPR and first aid as necessary.
- Establish positive relationships with co‑workers, public, contractors, vendors, citizen groups, and elected officials.
- Assist in training and evaluating patrol personnel.
- Control traffic safety conditions, enforce traffic safety laws, observe and report unusual traffic conditions.
- Respond to traffic incidents and emergencies, investigate traffic accidents, advise motorists on safety.
- Process prisoners, serve warrants and subpoenas, file and process misdemeanor and felony complaints.
- Coordinate and conduct detailed investigations of crimes involving juveniles and adults, vice, gaming, narcotics, etc.
- Participate in all law enforcement activities, issue citations, make arrests, administer first aid, transport prisoners.
- Perform undercover and surveillance activities, prepare reports, provide evidence and testimony in court.
- Interview victims, complainants, witnesses, suspects, and collect, preserve, maintain evidence.
- Plan, coordinate, and participate in law enforcement education and crime prevention programs for schools and community groups.
- Develop, conduct and coordinate training programs; evaluate training and equipment needs; assist in recruitment and selection.
Incumbents may be assigned to work various rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and are required to work overtime as directed. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications- Knowledge: Modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, equipment, applicable laws, ordinances, P.O.S.T. standards.
- Abilities: Observe accurately, remember faces, numbers, incidents; use and care for firearms; think and act quickly in emergencies; interpret laws and policies; communicate clearly with correct grammar; estimate vehicle speed; sketch scenes; restrain individuals; maintain effective relationships; exercise judgment; meet physical requirements; provide customer service.
- Education / Experience: High school diploma or G.E.D. is required. No prior police experience required. Entry level applicants must possess a valid POST Certificate or have completed an approved POST Academy within the last three years.
- Licenses & Certificates: Valid California driver’s license with satisfactory record.
The position requires frequently lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, dragging up to 160 pounds, climbing or jumping over obstacles, running to pursue suspects, and engaging in high speed pursuits. Regular exposure to hazardous or emergency conditions such as active crime scenes, gunfire, crowds, and extreme weather.
Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
