Position: Applicant Pool - Department of English, Communication, and Languages - Multiple Campuses

Course Offerings

Some Communication courses taught by this department include:
Basic Principles of Speech Communication;
Mass Communication;
Sign Language;
Interpersonal Communication;
Intercultural Communication;
Public Speaking;
Media Writing; and Writing and Editing for the Web.

Application Requirements

When preparing your cover letter, please ensure you clearly address the following items:

  • Communication Coursework — Please indicate the total number of communication-related credit hours you have completed in college (for example: public speaking, interpersonal communication, communication theory, multicultural communication, etc.). A minimum of 15 credit hours in communication is required for consideration for this pool.
  • Teaching & Professional Experience — Describe how your educational background and professional experience qualify you to teach communication courses in areas such as:
    • Communication Theory
    • Public Speaking
    • Interpersonal Communication
    • Multicultural Communication
    • Other communication-discipline courses
  • Provide concrete examples of how your experience (e.g., teaching, presenting, designing courses, working in communications roles) has prepared you to engage college‑level students in communication‑focused instruction.
  • Early College Faculty

    Note:

    The college also has a significant need for passionate adjunct faculty excited to contribute to our Early College program. Students taking Early College classes are dually enrolled in their local high school while also completing courses at CSM towards a certificate or degree. Early College faculty teach face‑to‑face classes between the hours of 8:15am and 2:00pm, two to four days a week.

    Qualifications
    • Master's degree in the discipline of instruction OR Master's in related field AND 15 hours in the discipline OR Sufficient experience in lieu of either requirement, as approved by VPAA
    • Subject matter/content expertise in the Communication field and ability to demonstrate this expertise in a teaching presentation.
    • This person should possess enthusiasm and passion for student learning and student services and be able to respond to the needs of students using a variety of teaching methods including new technologies.
