American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for an Emergency Department position requiring 1-2 years of ER experience and an active MD or Compact RN license.
Details- Work in a fast-paced Emergency Department at a community hospital
- 47-bed unit with an average daily census of 130 patients
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Treat patients across all age ranges, from infant to geriatric, with a wide variety of diagnoses
- Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (19:00-07:30), with 36/48 hour options
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required as scheduled
- Floating required within specialty scope
- No pre-scheduled on-call requirements
- Epic charting system experience preferred
- Active RN license (MD state or Compact)
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI (AHA certifications required for BLS/ACLS/PALS)
- 2 years of ER experience required, though 1+ year may be considered
- Community hospital experience required
- First-time travelers with strong ER skill and experience will be considered
- Skilled in pediatric and adult emergency care including abdominal pain, asthma, head injury, seizures, and infection management
- Experience managing psychiatric emergencies including acute psychosis, overdose, and suicidal patients
- Proficiency in respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, ventilator management, chest tube care, ABG interpretation, and intubation
- IV therapy skills including central line management, blood product administration, and phlebotomy
- Experience administering emergency medications, IV vasopressors, and procedural sedation
- Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation/management and 12-lead EKG acquisition
- Experience with triage, isolation precautions/PPE, and splint application
- Provide emergency nursing care across a broad range of medical, surgical, psychiatric, and trauma presentations
- Perform triage and manage patients with multisystem organ dysfunction
- Travelers are expected to float within their specialty scope with priority given to floating assignments
- Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the facility unless otherwise specified as accepting locals
- Maximum RTO request of 7 days per contract, with additional scheduling rules applying to requests longer than 4 consecutive days
- One major holiday off during the winter season may be permitted depending on unit needs
- Returning staff members must have been separated from the health system for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
- Returning travelers typically must have a 6-month break from the system before starting a new assignment
