Overview
Under moderate supervision, maintains a safe and secure environment for employees, patients, physicians and visitors. Protects persons and property by preventing fires, thefts, assault, injuries and acts of vandalism through the enforcement of departmental rules and regulations.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
To qualify for the position, the candidate must obtain a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be 21 years of age. One year of Healthcare Security strongly preferred.
ConditionsThe new hire or transfer employee will remain within this job category for a probationary period of six months. With a satisfactory criteria based performance evaluation, the employee will advance to a regular status employee. If the evaluation is not satisfactory, the employee will be terminated.
Skills & AbilitiesAbility to ensure the confidentiality and rights of patients and confidentiality of health system and departmental documents required
Language SkillsThe ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with patients, physicians, health system officials, other health system personnel and the general public is essential.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to perform basic math functions.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to prioritize work responsibilities; think and act independently with limited supervision.
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations- Must attend and receive annual certification training in Non-violence Crisis Intervention as scheduled by the Manager, Security, or designee.
- Valid State of Maryland Driver’s License and proof of insurance preferred.
Works in all areas of hospital, with exposure to combative patients, fluctuating temperatures, and loud noise. Requires walking and standing approximately 70% of the time, requires sitting approximately 30% of the time. Requires handling combative patients, weighing in excess of 100 lbs.; requires pushing, pulling and lifting equipment and supplies weighing up to 100 lbs., approximately 30% of the time. Requires visual acuity and manual dexterity to operate tools and equipment.
Potential for exposure to communicable diseases and/or blood and body substances and hazardous materials requiring the observance of Standard Precautions and safe handling practices.
