History Teacher and Social Sciences Department Chair

La Lumiere School is excited to welcome applications for the position of History Teacher and Social Sciences Department Chair for the school year. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching high school History and Social Sciences, likely including AP World History, World History 2, AP United States Government and Politics/Government, and possible AP Comparative Government and Politics courses. In the History & Social Sciences Department, we encourage students to think critically about history in order to foster students’ understanding of diverse cultural perspectives across different time periods.
We value knowledge of the past as a way to comprehend the present and future.
- Teach 5 sections of classes each semester
- Serve as Chair of the History & Social Sciences Department
- Lead department meetings, curriculum planning, and course development
- Support, mentor, and collaborate with department faculty
- Sponsor/supervise a co-curricular activity during two seasons
- Serve as an advisor to a group of approximately eight students
- Bachelor’s degree in the relevant academic discipline. Master’s degree preferred
- Three or more years of teaching experience at the secondary level preferred
- Experience working with students outside of the classroom through coaching, mentorship, or other activities preferred

Faculty compensation packages are competitive. If a faculty member resides on campus, the school provides year-round housing and meals when school is in session for the faculty member and his/her family as part of the benefits package. Other benefits include an optional health plan, a contribution to a 403(b) retirement account, and professional development opportunities.
