Special Education Teacher

Job Summary

The Special Education Teacher plans and provides targeted instruction to students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. The primary goal is to create a safe, supportive, and accessible environment that empowers students to achieve their maximum academic, emotional, and functional independence. • Assess student skills:
  Evaluate students' academic, behavioral, and functional capabilities to determine specific educational requirements.
• Draft and manage IEPs:
  Design, implement, and track individualized goals and accommodations in strict alignment with state and federal regulations.
• Facilitate meetings:
  Schedule and lead IEP case conferences with parents, school administrators, and support staff to review student progress and adjust objectives.

• Adapt the curriculum:
  Support with modifying general education lesson plans, assignments, and testing methods to accommodate various learning levels.
• Provide differentiated teaching:
  Instruct students using individualized learning needs in one-on-one, or group setting for both math and reading

• Co-teach and consult:
  Partner with general education teachers to integrate accommodations seamlessly into the general classroom setting.
• Coordinate support staff:
  Direct, mentor, and supervise classroom paraprofessionals, teacher assistants, and volunteers.
• Liaise with therapists:
  Work cooperatively with school psychologists and speech-language pathologists to deploy a holistic intervention plan.
• Engage parents:
  Act as the primary contact for families, providing consistent updates on student triumphs and challenges, and offering strategies for continued learning at home.

• Education:
  
  Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or a related educational field.
• Licensure: A valid State Teaching License with an explicit Special Education Endorsement
• Certifications:
  
  Up-to-date certification in First Aid/CPR/AED
