Howmet Aerospace has an immediate opening for a Senior EHS Engineer at our La Porte, IN location. The role is a key member of the EHS team and provides a platform for growth.
Responsibilities- Assist with location fatality and serious injury prevention efforts, help lead deployment and execution of key prevention elements, coach location leaders.
- Analyze injury and incident data and assist line management in implementing focused injury reduction efforts. Provide expertise to proactively address injury reduction efforts. Lead injury and incident investigations to determine root causes and corrective and preventative actions.
- Provide oversight of the location’s EHS self‑assessment (audit) process and coach Single Point Accountable (SPA) persons to maintain compliance with regulatory and Howmet standards.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance and Operations teams to integrate EHS considerations into new equipment design, process changes and capital projects.
- Assist with the facility’s industrial hygiene program including execution of IH sampling plans, the administration of IH databases and employee exposure records, hazardous material management, ergonomics oversight, radiation protection and health hazard elimination efforts.
- Assist with environmental compliance activities.
- Coach and counsel departmental leaders in the execution of their EHS accountabilities.
- Partner with location leadership to deliver EHS objectives. Champion the site’s EHS culture, encouraging employee involvement and accountability at all levels.
- Demonstrated professional with passion for change and relentless focus on execution.
- Knowledge of applicable Federal and State EHS related regulations and procedures.
- Strong communication skills, analytical skills, problem‑solving and human relations skills.
- Ability to make difficult decisions with sometimes an incomplete set of data.
- Critical skills include execution, attention to detail, initiative, conflict resolution, customer focus, collaboration, building ownership and commitment, establishing a direction, drive for change, gaining organizational support and tenacity.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
- At least 3 years of EHS related experience.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- This position entails access to export‑controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant’s ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.
Preferred Qualifications:
- BS degree in safety, industrial hygiene or environmental topic.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
