Environmental Permitting Manager - Data Center Programs
Job Description
The Environmental Permitting Manager oversees environmental due diligence, permitting acquisition, and compliance activities that enable the successful delivery of data center projects. This role leads the development and on-time delivery of environmental permits, supports regulatory reviews, and partners closely with legal, design, construction, and operations teams to ensure that complex, mission-critical facilities meet all applicable environmental requirements throughout site acquisition, design, and construction.
Responsibilities
+ Lead environmental due diligence activities for greenfield and brownfield data center sites, including environmental site assessments, risk assessments, and remediation-related evaluations.
+ Manage the acquisition, development, and on-time delivery of environmental permits required to support data center construction and operation.
+ Oversee environmental permitting and approvals processes, including environmental impact assessments, new region regulatory reviews, and the development of environmental programs.
+ Coordinate cultural and ecological surveys and approvals to support site selection, design, and construction activities.
+ Support environmental compliance during site acquisition, design, and construction, ensuring adherence to applicable environmental regulations and permit conditions.
+ Develop permitting timelines and schedules, identify permitting risks, and define mitigation strategies to keep projects on track.
+ Regularly collaborate with internal stakeholders, including legal, design, construction, and operations teams, to align permitting strategies with project objectives.
+ Establish and maintain positive, cross-functional working relationships with internal and external partners to facilitate effective environmental permitting and compliance.
+ Apply advanced knowledge of environmental permitting programs, remedial investigations, remediation strategies, site conceptual models, and site management plans to guide project decisions.
+ Contribute to the development and execution of site management plans and remediation strategies that support long-term environmental compliance.
+ Communicate clearly and professionally through written reports and presentations, ensuring high-quality deliverables that document environmental due diligence, permitting status, and compliance activities.
+ Support the review and continuous improvement of environmental permitting processes to enhance efficiency and consistency across multiple projects.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or an equivalent discipline.
+ 10+ years of environmental permitting and approvals experience, including management of environmental impact assessments, acquisition of permits, new region regulatory reviews, cultural and ecological surveys and approvals, and environmental programs development.
+ 5+ years of experience conducting environmental due diligence and risk assessments for greenfield and brownfield sites, including environmental site assessments and remediation.
+ Demonstrated background in environmental permitting and compliance for complex projects.
+ Proven project management experience, with the ability to coordinate multiple work streams and stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
+ Advanced knowledge of environmental permitting programs and requirements, including air quality, threatened and endangered species, USACE/404 permitting, and cultural resources.
+ Working knowledge of remedial investigations, remediation strategies and execution, site conceptual models, and site management plans.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail and high standards for the quality of deliverables.
+ Ability to establish and maintain cross-functional and positive working relationships with internal and external teams.
+ Experience supporting mission critical facilities or large-scale construction projects.
