Description

The Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for the design, development, installation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of instrumentation and control systems that support safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations. This position partners with Production, Process Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Controls teams to ensure equipment and process control systems perform effectively while meeting safety, quality, and operational requirements. The Instrumentation Engineer provides technical expertise for troubleshooting, system optimization, and implementation of engineering solutions across manufacturing facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain instrumentation and control systems used to monitor and control manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Design and implement methods to measure and monitor process variables such as temperature, pressure, flow, and other critical operating parameters.
  • Test, troubleshoot, calibrate, and optimize instrumentation and control systems to improve reliability, performance, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Production, Process, Controls, Maintenance, and Quality teams to design, implement, and improve control systems and manufacturing processes.
  • Support the installation, setup, commissioning, and maintenance of new instrumentation and control equipment.
  • Analyze equipment and process data to identify opportunities for performance improvements and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor and improve the performance of control systems, instrumentation, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings, technical documentation, instrument specifications, and operating procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, engineering standards, and quality requirements.
  • Provide technical support and training to operations, maintenance, and engineering personnel.
  • Participate in capital projects and process improvement initiatives while supporting project execution and implementation activities.

Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of industrial control systems, automation technologies, and instrumentation used within manufacturing environments.
  • Understanding of process measurement and control principles, including pressure, temperature, flow, and level instrumentation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, analyze data, and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and create engineering drawings, technical documentation, and specifications.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across functional teams.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation controllers and Wonderware HMI systems is preferred.

Education and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a closely related technical field.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience as an Instrumentation Engineer or in a closely related engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Foundational knowledge of industrial automation, process control systems, and instrumentation technologies.
  • Experience coordinating projects and collaborating with cross‑functional teams is preferred.
