Surveillance Engineer (Security)

About This Job

As a Surveillance Engineer, you play a critical role in safeguarding our assets and operations. You design, implement, and maintain our advanced surveillance infrastructure, ensuring continuous and reliable security coverage. This position directly impacts our ability to monitor, detect, and respond to security incidents, contributing significantly to a safe and secure environment for everyone. You act as a technical expert, driving innovation and operational excellence in our physical security systems.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Installs and configures complex CCTV Systems and IP Cameras, ensuring optimal placement and functionality for comprehensive coverage.
  • Manages and maintains advanced Video Management Systems (VMS), including Milestone XProtect and Genetec Security Center, to ensure seamless operation and data integrity.
  • Performs regular troubleshooting and diagnostic activities on surveillance equipment and Networking components to identify and resolve issues promptly.
  • Administers and optimizes NVR (Network Video Recorder) systems, ensuring efficient storage, retrieval, and playback of video data.
  • Leads System Integration efforts for various Physical Security technologies, creating cohesive and interoperable security solutions.
  • Develops and implements preventative maintenance schedules for all surveillance hardware and software, minimizing downtime and maximizing system lifespan.
  • Collaborates with IT and security teams to ensure network security and compliance standards are met for all surveillance systems.
  • Provides technical support and training to end-users on surveillance system operation and incident response protocols.
  • Documents system configurations, maintenance procedures, and incident reports accurately and thoroughly.
  • Evaluates new surveillance technologies and makes recommendations for system enhancements and upgrades.
Education
  • Holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Possesses relevant industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Security+, or specific vendor certifications).
Experience
  • Brings a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of surveillance systems.
  • Demonstrates proven experience with large-scale CCTV Systems and IP Camera deployments.
Knowledge/Skills
  • Possesses expert knowledge of CCTV Systems and IP Cameras, including various camera types and their applications.
  • Exhibits strong proficiency in Video Management Systems (VMS), specifically Milestone XProtect and Genetec Security Center.
  • Understands Networking principles, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, and network security as they relate to surveillance systems.
  • Excels in Troubleshooting complex hardware and software issues within a surveillance environment.
  • Has in-depth experience with NVR (Network Video Recorder) configuration, management, and data recovery.
  • Applies principles of System Integration to connect disparate security components effectively.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of Physical Security concepts and best practices.
  • Communicates technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Works independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Holds advanced certifications from Milestone Systems or Genetec.
  • Possesses experience with access control systems integration.
  • Has experience working in a critical infrastructure or high-security environment.
Physical Requirements /Work Conditions
  • Performs tasks that require standing, walking, bending, and lifting equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Works at heights using ladders or lifts when installing or servicing cameras.
  • Operates in various environmental conditions, including indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Is available for on-call support and occasional after-hours work as needed.
