Position:
Senior Preventative Maintenance Technician

Overview

PRIMARY

PURPOSE:

Perform scheduled preventative maintenance services on district facilities, equipment, mechanical systems and components. Perform mechanical tasks to keep equipment operating safely and economically.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Valid Texas Drivers License; must be insurable by district’s insurance carrier
  • Completion of apprenticeship or technical school/coursespreferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • General knowledge of mechanical maintenance and repairs
  • Ability to read and comprehend design drawings
  • Ability to operate all types of woodworking machinery
  • Ability to operate all types of metal welding and burning tools and equipment preferred
  • Ability to transform plans into a completed product
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems

Experience

  • Experience in structural maintenance field preferred
  • Fire Alarm systems experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Maintain buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of facilities.
  • Perform carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting work to maintain buildings.
  • Plan and organize maintenance and repairs performed on buildings. Responsible for maintaining and improving buildings to meet standards.
  • Responsible for building quality control. Inspects facilities and work areas to eliminate deficiencies and improve facilities.
  • Travel from site to site; inspect facilities, buildings, and grounds for routine maintenance; prioritize repairs and renovations.
  • Requisition building maintenance supplies, material, and equipment; monitor inventory; load and unload supplies, materials and equipment.
  • Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery as necessary.
  • Load and deliver tables and chairs to special events as necessary.
  • Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation in connection with electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, and the exterior and interior of buildings.
  • Oversee building maintenance contract and service work; process and contract out repair requests.
  • Construct, maintain and repair walls, flooring, ceiling, and other construction as necessary.
  • Apply protective coating, such as primer and intermediate and finished coats, to prepared surfaces and painting.
  • Provide instruction/training to department Team members concerning approved equipment preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Models behavior that promotes a positive organizational climate.
  • Provides assistance in organization of maintenance tasks.
  • Assists in advancing the mission, vision, goals, and strategic plan for the district.
  • Provides effective communication with staff and campus personnel.
  • Maintains an effective system of communication among department maintenance staff and campuses.
  • Responds to all maintenance issues appropriately.
  • Manages, maintains, and runs reports of the work order system as needed.
  • Assists with coordinating the installation of new equipment.
  • Follow all LPISD and Maintenance Department safety procedures.
  • Comply with all policies and procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for safe operation and care of assigned service vehicle tools and equipment.
  • Coordinate, organize and complete daily assignments assuming responsibility for proper documentation regarding assigned task, work orders and procurement of supplies.
  • Assists with the department's maintenance and equipment budget, as needed.
  • Seeks, accepts, and responds to evaluative feedback from peers and supervisors.
  • Exhibits good judgment.
  • Continually improves and updates knowledge of the district's facilities and operations.
  • Maintain an on-call status for fire alarms.
  • Completes duties as assigned by the designated Foreman or Executive Director of Support Services.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise staff assigned, as needed.
