Position: Material Handler I

Chemical Materials Worker (Material Handler) – AMPAC Fine Chemicals (La Porte, TX)

AMPAC Fine Chemicals is seeking a Chemical Materials Worker (Material Handler) to join our team at our La Porte, Texas location.

Responsibilities
  • Perform various manual and clerical tasks related to ordering, sampling, receiving, moving, storing, disbursing, packing, and shipping all chemical materials, equipment, and supplies required to support manufacturing and product shipment.
  • Pick up shop orders and related materials and deliver them to the proper stations.
  • Work with chemicals and perform routing tasks to assist technical personnel in the warehouse.
  • Unload trucks, ensuring all material and chemicals and receiving paperwork is complete and accounted for, and annotate freight damage according to departmental procedures.
  • Move all materials to their proper locations, separating chemicals for forwarding to quality groups, obtaining and transporting samples to the laboratory for testing, and moving materials between Receiving, Sampling, Production, or Warehouse facilities.
  • Visually check for proper identification, storage life, and condition of containers being sampled.
  • Verify and account for all required signatures, quantities, acceptance tags, and labels, and separate and distribute materials to the correct department, person, or station.
  • Move chemicals, materials, equipment, and supplies to and from stores, warehouses, and manufacturing areas using forklifts, tugs, vans, and trucks up to one‑ton flatbeds; load shipments on transportation equipment and secure loads with ropes, straps, blocks, or other means to prevent damage.
  • Prepare shipping papers and labels for the shipment of materials and final product according to specific shipping instructions; order, stock, dispense, and deliver chemicals and materials according to customer and regulatory paperwork requirements; report discrepancies such as quality overages, shortages, or damage of material.
  • Handle record‑keeping work including shipping, purchase orders, requisitions, and computerized records; verify inventory and shelf‑life records by performing physical inventories; identify shelf‑life materials requiring quality review.
  • Ensure that all chemicals and materials are moved, stored, and disbursed according to current safety procedures and practices; obtain and transport samples of chemical materials to Quality for testing; maintain all warehouse facilities in a clean, neat, and orderly manner in accordance with cGMP, FDA, and established housekeeping practices; maintain all checklists, logs, and relevant paperwork for warehouse equipment.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent with 4+ years of experience.
