WHE Mechanic Trainee

This role supports the refurbishment of plated heat exchangers by assisting in the shipping, machining, and welding areas. You will work closely with assemblers and welders, performing tasks that range from minor assembly and material handling to maintaining clean and organized work spaces. Each day brings different responsibilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where attention to detail and the ability to follow directions are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Float between the shipping department, machining area, and welding area to support daily production needs.
  • Assist assemblers and welders in the refurbishment of plated heat exchangers, including minor assembly tasks.
  • Constantly lift, move, and stack materials safely and efficiently throughout the shift.
  • Receive, count, document, and label parts accurately to maintain proper inventory control.
  • Sweep, clean, and organize work areas to support a safe, orderly, and efficient workspace.
  • Read and interpret drawings and blueprints to understand work requirements and specifications.
  • Inspect materials for irregularities and document findings through notes and photographs.
  • Follow instructions closely and complete tasks with strong attention to detail.
  • Work collaboratively in a team setting, adapting to changing daily assignments and priorities.
  • Be available to work Saturdays and Sundays when needed, including extended shifts as required.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of experience as a welder helper, in assembly, or in a mechanical role.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, with the ability to work with tools and mechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints.
  • Good hand–eye coordination and finger dexterity for precise handling of materials and tools.
  • Experience operating forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Ability to follow directions carefully and listen attentively.
  • Stable work history, with a track record of staying in roles longer than 6–12 months.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness and ability to perform constant lifting, moving, and stacking of materials.
  • Comfort working Saturdays and Sundays when required.

  • Experience in automotive mechanics is highly valued.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team setting.

Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility that refurbishes heat exchange units. You will work in a team-oriented setting where daily tasks and responsibilities can change, providing a dynamic and varied workday. The environment involves regular use of forklifts, overhead cranes, and hand tools, as well as frequent lifting, moving, and stacking of materials. Openings are available on multiple shifts, and flexibility is important.

Candidates for second shift may start on first shift (typically 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) for approximately four weeks before moving to second shift (approximately 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.). Shifts are currently 10 hours and may extend to 12 hours as needed, with occasional Saturday and Sunday work required. The setting is industrial and active, with a focus on safety, organization, and cleanliness in all work areas.
