Groundskeeper, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
DEFINITION
To perform a variety of semi-skilled landscape maintenance, utility maintenance, and related custodial duties.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives direct supervision from the Water Production and Treatment Plant Supervisors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Mow, trim and weed water production, wastewater treatment, lift station and other City Facilities.
- Operate a zero-turn riding tractor, push mowers, weed trimmers, trimmers, blowers and blowers and related ground maintenance equipment.
- Rake leaves, clean walks, buildings, pick up rubbish. Perform general grounds building maintenance.
- Assist in maintaining water production and waste treatment facilities.
- Assist in water distribution and collection maintenance work.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
For indefinite periods of time - mobility within an office and field environment; exposure to fumes, odors, dust/mites, and mechanical hazards; exposure to extreme cold, heat, temperature swings and constant noise; walking; twisting body; working in trenches; stooping; standing; squatting; sitting; seeing; kneeling; grasping; climbing; cleaning; reading; reaching above shoulder level; pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying up to 75 pounds; using both hands for simple and firm grasping;
clarity of hearing; fine finger manipulation; operation of a weed trimmer, lawn mower, blower, edger and a variety of hand tools; operating a motor vehicle through city traffic
Knowledge of:
- Basic methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in grounds and building maintenance work. Safe work practices under hazardous conditions.
Ability to:
- Perform semi-skilled landscape maintenance work.
- Operate a variety of mowers, edger, and other ground maintenance equipment.
- Perform minor repairs on buildings, fences, and other facilities.
- Learn to operate a variety of light mechanical equipment.
No prior work experience required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATESHigh School Diploma or GED preferred.
Possession of a valid Texas Driver's License.
