Organizational Context & Purpose

The INEOS O&P USA business manufactures and markets ethylene, propylene, butadiene, polypropylene, and polyethylene. Manufacturing sites include Chocolate Bayou Works (Alvin, TX), Battleground Manufacturing Complex (LaPorte, TX), and Carson PP Unit (Carson, CA), with a division office in League City. This position is part of the Analytical team at the Battleground Manufacturing Complex, located in La Porte, Texas, which produces approximately 2billion pounds of polyethylene and polypropylene annually.

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for using Standard Analytical Methods to provide prompt and accurate testing for conformance to quality specifications, operational process control, special customer requirements, troubleshooting, or improvement projects.

Role Fit

The Lab Technician reports to the Chemists/Team Leaders and works at the Battleground Manufacturing Complex in La Porte, TX.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Follow all safety/PPE rules and actively promote safety, including behavior‑based safety, safety audits, safety committee meetings, safety improvement reports, job safety analysis, and safety inspections.
  • Support the daily safety, health and environmental operations in the lab through adherence to SHE procedures and promotion of the INEOS 20 Safety Principles.
  • Use Standard Analytical Methods to prepare samples, conduct tests, and ensure all analyses are performed according to procedures.
  • Prioritize customer requests and testing, perform tests under appropriate conditions, and enter results into the LIMS system.
  • Report deviations from calibration to the scientist or team leader and communicate test results within the Analytical group, TSD, and Manufacturing.
  • Discuss special testing requirements when necessary and communicate priorities and special requests to internal customers.
  • Analyze monitor samples and maintain equipment monitor records per the monitor policy.
  • Maintain a clean laboratory and equipment, demonstrating housekeeping standards for a world‑class organization.
  • Apply statistical process control (SPC) to lab test results to ensure measurement systems are in statistical control.
  • Monitor testing equipment, troubleshoot and identify issues, perform routine preventative maintenance, and report abnormalities or maintenance needs.
  • Write Maintenance Work Orders or order approved lab supplies and initiate documentation following maintenance policies.
  • Perform job tasks professionally, utilizing good housekeeping practices and laboratory technique.
  • Participate in training across Analytical areas and support increased testing turnover when required.
  • Collaborate with the laboratory team to accomplish organizational goals and support the INEOS Mission, Values, Philosophies, and Quality statements.
Skills & Knowledge Required
  • Education/Experience
    :
    Minimum Associate Degree preferred in Chemistry and/or Chemical Technology or equivalent lab experience; 1‑3years lab or operations experience in a chemical plant, refinery, or gas processing plant.
  • Computer Skills
    :
    Proficiency in e‑mail, SAP, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Safety & Standards
    :

    Experience with PPE, safety procedures including OSHA standards, and ASTM/ISO methodology according to ISO
    17025.
  • Analytical Techniques
    :
    Familiarity with Physical Properties testing (tensile/elongation, flex modulus, impact), Chromatography (HPLC/GC), Wet Chemistry (extractions, solubility), Spectroscopy (IR, X‑ray, ICP), and Microscopy.
  • Competencies
    :
    Bias for action, strong business insight, partnership & teamwork, customer focus, problem solving, decision making, technical and functional skills, anticipation of problems, and consistent timely delivery.
Physical Requirements
  • Occasional: Pick up/collect samples on sloped, unlevel terrain; carry 212°F) and ovens (60°C); manipulate laboratory instruments.
  • Additional Demands: Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on lab equipment; handle instruments requiring delicate manipulation; perform occasional heavy lifting (up to 30lb); travel to and from trucks and storage areas; complete general housekeeping (sweeping, mopping, trash bag handling).
  • Computer Work: Work on computer up to 6‑8hours during shift for ordering supplies, producing reports, data entry, e‑mail, training, and related tasks.
