Job Summary

Responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on semi‑truck trailers and tractors, including brake adjustments, tire replacements, electrical troubleshooting, and basic structural repairs while working out of a service truck and adhering to strict safety regulations. Perform general repairs on tractor and trailer units in accordance with DOT, federal, and state regulations and company standards, using technical publications or automated systems to maintain vehicles per prescribed manufacturer maintenance schedules.

Properly annotate all maintenance and labor performed in maintenance management software.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair tractors and trailers.
  • Perform annual/systematic 90‑day inspections of trailers as required.
  • Ensure equipment meets Federal FHWA standards.
  • Operate a yard hostler truck to move trailers within the facility yard and shop as needed.
  • Identify parts and supplies as needed.
  • Adhere to all established safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards, including proper handling or disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Clean, organize, and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety.
  • Use welding equipment as required.
Requirements
  • Must possess at least 1 year of experience and general knowledge of equipment theory, principles, and repair relating to diesel engines, air, electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Must possess at least 1 year of experience in tractor and trailer maintenance, DOT rules and regulations, company policies and procedures.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent vocational school graduation.
  • At least 1 year related experience required.
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full‑time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday; hours depend on location.

Physical Demands
  • Push, pull, or lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Fit into a 20" cargo trailer dome opening.
  • Meet safety standards for fall protection harness – max weight 310 lbs.
  • Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Walk for long periods of time.
  • Bend or twist the body.
  • See differences between colors, shades, and brightness.
Company Information

The shop has a climate similar to outdoor weather. Frequent exposure to loud machinery, air tool operation, hammering, and engine noise.
