Communications Field Technician II

Total Safety is looking for a Communications Technician II to join their safety conscious team! The Communications Technician II provides service and repair for communications equipment which typically includes all aspects of Motorola two-way radio systems.

• Performs shop service and/or field repair (if certified) of communications equipment, including Motorola portable radios, mobile radios, base station radios, repeaters, consoles, and complete radio systems, as well as antenna systems and BDAs.
• May serve as either a lead technician overseeing the work of other technicians or as a senior worker performing complex radio/communications assignments.
• Completes all documentation associated with inspection and repair in a timely and accurate manner, obtaining customer signatures for proper invoicing and documentation.
• Conducts detailed visual inspections and system functional tests of various systems and equipment to report deficiencies and recommend corrective action to the customer.
• Prepares pre‑job, job‑update, and post‑job completion briefs.
• Assists with facility support tasks, including stocking shelves, pulling, staging, and loading customer orders onto trucks for delivery.
• Maintains work areas and other areas in a clean, orderly condition.
• Performs basic maintenance and care of assigned vehicle and/or trailer.
• Rigs up and uses a wide range of safety and rescue equipment, including winches, tripods, retractable lifelines, harnesses, and lanyards.
• Assists others as needed.

• Demonstrated ability to operate electronic safety equipment and understand production platform shutdowns performed through fire and gas detection systems.
• Ability to operate, maintain, reassemble, and test electronic safety equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
• Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose assigned equipment problems and take corrective action within policy and procedure limitations.
• Knowledge of all regulatory standards pertaining to assignments, including State, OSHA, and NFPA regulations.
• Knowledge of applicable Code of Federal Regulations;
  Coast Guard and ABS regulations if offshore.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

• Shop and yard environment. May be frequently exposed to wet, humid, outdoor weather conditions and vibration. Work may occur in some customer environments during later training. May be exposed to high pressure, chemicals, and shop traffic. Noise level is usually moderate.

• High School diploma or GED and at least two (2) years of field experience in communications, fire protection, petrochemical, oil refinery, or a related industry. An associate’s degree, technical or military training strongly preferred.
