SUMMARY
To motivate crew members to observe the policies, verify requirements are met and reports on deficiencies. This must be done within his or her overriding discretion and authority to operate the vessel in the best interests of passengers, crews, the environment and the public and is responsible for the operational, maintenance, housekeeping, safety, and duties on the vessel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational
a) Facing up to and making up the tow
b) Dropping, spotting and switching barges at dock(s)
c) Assisting and switching barges at dock(s)
d) Maintaining continuous communications with
operations department, safety department and dispatch department
e) Maintaining Paper work, Supply orders, Grocery orders and Payroll
f) Supervision of loading/unloading barges
g) Performing the various task necessary to carry out the above
Maintenance
a) Maintain the upkeep of chipping and painting vessel and barge(s)
b) Maintain engine room watch, greasing of winches, and other moving parts, oil and lube changes
c) Equipment maintenance as needed and reporting any defects to port engineers
d) Coordination of the operation of the vessel/barge(s) through the Port Engineers and theLa Porte / Mobile office
e) Maintenance of vessel and barge(s)
f) Maintain the upkeep of draft marks vessel and barge(s)
Housekeeping
a) Overseeing the cleanliness of the vessel
b) Maintaining the cleanliness of quarters, including personal quarters
c) Cleanliness of the wheelhouse
d) Share in cooking and galley clean up
e) Supervision of all personnel to insure that jobs are properly completed
Safety
a) Reporting any hazards or unsafe condition to the General Operation Manager, and Safety department and making "on- the- spot" corrections when capable
b) Familiar with all Barge Reports, Inspections Reports and paper work relating to Cargo Transfer
Job Requirements
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
* Must have Towing of Inland and Western Rivers indorsed on Master license with 5 + years or second issue grater with USCG/Radar, and willing to work a 2 for 1 / 28-14 work schedule.
* Must be willing to travel , push 2-3 barge tow GICWW, Upper and Lower Mississippi, Houston / Galveston - West to Corpus Christi, Houston / Galveston East to Mobile, Alabama.
* Must have TWIC, USCG, Barge PIC - Drivers License
* Knowledge of engine room and wheelhouse management skills.
* Ability to read and understand the English language, analyze and interpret information.
